Apple has designed its own iPhone and iPad chips for more than 10 years, and plans to replace Intel chips for MAC computers for several years.
Ge yue said Apple's chips are tailored to their own products and are optimized for machine learning. Because machine learning can provide users with a more unique experience, Apple has long been developing chips that can effectively run complex machine learning algorithms on the device side.
Ge yue said M1 chip is designed with arm architecture, which is a 5-nanometer process, and is the most advanced chip in the current computer products. There are 16 billion transistors on the chip, which integrates the CPU, graphics processor, neural network engine, various connection functions and many other components. Thanks to this, M1 chips accomplish seemingly impossible tasks: significant performance improvements, including up to 15 times faster machine learning and twice the battery life.
With the improvement of chip design capability, Apple has accelerated the pace of replacing Intel chips in recent years, and has expanded its related ecology. Last year Apple released three MacBook Air, macbook pro and mac mini computers, all equipped with self-developed M1 chips, and further applied M1 chips to iPad pro of tablet computers this year.
