Thanks, AI, I found this pretty fascinating, and the greater detail leaves me feeling that Project Bongo was a solution in search of a problem. The buttons still moved but were now tethered to much more complex electronics and we want this vs the mechanical buttons we have because why? "Button failure" is hardly an issue on iPhones but, in theory, I figured non-movable buttons with haptic/audio feedback might allow the iPhone to be more waterproof. However, since the buttons moved anyway, that would seem to make them no better than what we have now. It's funny how "advances" are sometimes not. With the old ringer silence switch, I could tell at a glance if I had my phone on silent or not. But with the new Action Button, I have to press the button to see whether the phone is on ringer or silent. (Perhaps it's visible in always-on display mode, but I don't use that.)
