Spotify Premium will now cost $1 more per month in the US, and the service is increasing an equivalent amount in over 50 other countries.
An increase to the US pricing was recently rumored as Spotify struggles to stay profitable. However, it was expected that the US increase would come perhaps months before the rest of the world, and instead Spotify as announced it across the board.
"The market landscape has continued to evolve since we launched," said the company in a statement. "So that we can keep innovating, we are changing our Premium prices across a number of markets around the world."
"These updates will help us continue to deliver value to fans and artists on our platform," it continued.
The price increase covers all four of Spotify's Premium subscription plans. In the US, this means that from the next billing cycle, prices will rise to:
- Premium Single: $10.99/month
- Premium Duo: $14.99/month
- Premium Family: $16.99/month
- Premium Student: $5.99/month
Spotify says that all subscribers will be emailed with the details of price changes in their territory.
For comparison, Apple Music raised its price for an individual subscription to $10.99/month in October 2022. Amazon Music Unlimited is also $10.99/month, though Prime subscribers get it for $8.99/month.
Separately, Spotify has recently announced that it will cut off any subscribers who pay for the service via Apple's App Store.
