Hopefully this is just an attempt by the display producers to move Apple’s competitors towards larger and larger screens, to increase their own profits. Most people use their phones in portrait orientation most of the time (but eyes are side-by-side), and a thumb also reaches the side more easily than the top, so making the screen slightly wider might be beneficial for reading and watching videos, but making it taller mostly benefits the specs on paper at the expense of usability. The only disadvantage with wider screens is that they don’t fit quite as well in the pocket of tight pants. That can be partially offset by rounding off the rear edges, like some of the earlier iPhone models, with the added benefit of feeling nicer in the hands.
