MicroLED is promising for the videophile. Maybe not so much in a watch, I think. At this point, it's also enormously expensive. Samsung has announced three MicroLED TV sets,Here's one: 110” CLASS* MICRO LED Samsung 4K with Smart Hub (*109.2” measured diagonally), $149,999.99 (99¢, really Samsung?)
Here's another: 146” CLASS* MICRO LED Samsung 2K with Smart Hub, only $219,999.99Sure, widespread adoption will bring the price down to the consumer level, dramatically, but not in 2023 or 2024, probably not 2025.
Honestly, I figured you HAD to be making up those prices... surely no company could be that ridiculous... to knock a penny off the prices of $150K and $220K televisions as if these were bath towels priced at $9.99 instead of $10. But you're correct! Samsung IS that stupid.
You know, I never thought about OLED's burn-in factor as it relates to the Apple Watch. How does Apple prevent that from happening? While my watch will brighten or dim depending on my wrist position, there are elements of every watch face that don't change and are on the screen constantly--why don't they burn-in? Xed's mention above that micro-LED would use less power is about the only real advantage (though an important one) that I see it having. With the Ultra's added brightness, it's never a struggle to read, even in bright sunlight. And as for text being sharper, that's also solving a problem that doesn't exist. For the amount of reading you do on an Apple Watch--not much--the text is plenty sharp as is.
After years of work, Microsoft is still trying to make its own Apple Silicon-like chip
Special iPadOS 17 version for bigger screens rumor makes no sense
