Astropad Studio users can now access a peer-to-peer networking feature to connect an iPad to a Mac directly for people on slow Wi-Fi networks.

Astropad helps iPad users connect their iPad to a Mac to use the tablet as a drawing tool for art and creative design. The update improves the experience for people without a good Wi-Fi connection.

The new peer-to-peer connectivity in Astropad Studio 5.3 wirelessly connects an iPad to a Mac to bypass old routers and locked-down networks. It also reduces latency for faster input transfer between devices so that artists can draw more quickly.

Astropad Studio 5.3 now supports tilt and azimuth support for Apple Pencil hover on iPadOS 16.4. Azimuth is the direction of the tilt, whereas tilt is the angle at which the Apple Pencil is held. The addition of hover tilt brings greater precision to the Apple Pencil.

Tilt support for Apple Pencil hover is only available in iPad Pro 2022 models running iPadOS 16.4. However, Astropad says that bringing hover tilt to the iPad closes the gap between iPad + Astropad Studio and traditional Wacom graphics tablets.

Pricing & Availability

Astropad offers the Studio app for $99 annually, but interested artists can start with a 14-day trial. However, through May 19, the company is providing 20% off the first year of AstroPad Studio with the code FAST.

AstroPad Studio requires macOS 10.11 El Capitan or later, and iPadOS 12.1 or later. The peer-to-peer networking feature needs iOS 13 and macOS 10.15 or later.

The company recommends using 802.11n Wi-Fi or a wired Ethernet connection.
