Following regulatory approval, South Korean credit card company Hyundai has confirmed that it will be collaborating with Apple to bring Apple Pay to its customers.
Almost a decade after Apple Pay was first launched in the US, it is now coming to South Korea. It's a significant country to allow the service since the region is dominated by Samsung Pay, produced by the Korean firm Samsung.
Now local regulators have approved Apple Pay, with certain conditions, and local credit card company Hyundai has confirmed expectations that it is intending to be first to market with it.
According to Nikkei Asia, Hyundai Card has not said when Apple Pay support will begin, however.
"We look forward to collaborating with Apple to introduce Apple Pay to S. Korea," said a Hyundai Card spokesperson in a statement seen by the publication. "We will share more details in the coming months."
Apple has confirmed the launch, saying "we look forward to bringing Apple Pay" to South Korea, but only added that details would be released later.
Hyundai Card was expected to launch with Apple Pay support in November 2022. But at the time, the local Financial Supervisory Service delayed the launch, saying it needed to be reviewed.
