Apple TV+ has hired Ricky Strauss, most recently involved in the launch of Disney+, as its new head of marketing.

While Strauss's LinkedIn profile still lists him as President of Marketing at the Walt Disney Studios, Deadline reports that he joined Apple TV+ on Tuesday. He will lead consumer marketing for the streaming service, including both original series and films, reporting to Tor Myhren.

Prior to his marketing work for Disney+ and Hulu, Strauss was executive producer on a range of movies and documentaries. They include 2011's "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel," and 2006's "An Inconvenient Truth."

Disney+ launched in November 2019, the same month as Apple TV+, and initially set a goal of 60 million to 90 million subscribers by the end of 2024. Instead, it had achieved 118.1 million by November 2021, although growth then started to show signs of slowing down.
