Apple has provided developers with a new fourth beta build of macOS Monterey 12.4 to test out on their systems.

The newest builds can be downloaded from the Apple Developer Center for developers enrolled in the test program, or as an over-the-air update for devices already running the beta software. Public betas typically arrive within a few days of the developer versions, via the Apple Beta Software Program website.

The fourth follows the third beta of macOS Monterey 12.4, which landed on April 26. The second beta arrived on April 19, and the first was on April 5.

The build number for the fourth developer beta is 21F5071b, taking over from the second beta's 21F5063e.

Few details of feature changes have been uncovered for the beta, but it is most likely going to be a bug fix and performance-focused update. What has been discovered is a software fix for the Studio Display's webcam.

As WWDC 2022 is on the horizon, it seems unlikely that many major changes will be made before then.

Apple has advised users of Universal Control in the beta must ensure that they are using iPadOS 15.5 beta for the feature to continue working with a Mac running macOS 12.4.

AppleInsider, and Apple itself, strongly advise users avoid installing beta software on to "mission-critical" or primary devices, due to the small possibility of data loss or other issues. Instead, testers should install betas onto secondary or non-essential devices, and to ensure there are sufficient backups of important data before updating in the first place.
